Crash in Kentucky construction zone kills 1, injures 2

Kentucky construction zones can be dangerous places for road workers, often requiring various precautions such as signs and enforced speed limits. While construction areas are usually marked, it is possible for drivers to miss warnings and enter an area too fast. This can make the construction hazardous for both workers and other vehicles.

On Aug. 15, an accident in a construction zone killed one person from Lexington. The crash occurred on Interstate 64 at mile marker 63 when the driver of a pickup truck reportedly failed to see that other traffic had stopped in the construction zone.

The three-vehicle crash happened around 8:15 a.m. near the Midway exit. A 27-year-old woman's vehicle was hit from behind by the pickup truck, and she was taken to Kentucky Chandler Hospital. She died later in the neurosurgical intensive care unit, and two others suffered injuries from the wreck.

A driver's careless actions can result in severe consequences for others; said driver or their insurance company might have to pay restitution for a wreck when someone suffers injuries or dies due to the negligent actions of another. This can provide a victim or victim's family with compensation for medical expenses, lost wages and funeral costs.

Examples of negligence that may hold one accountable in a civil suit may include but are not limited to actions such as eating, texting and driving, talking on the phone or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. An accident investigation may uncover evidence that can be used in civil court, and investigators may gather evidence by examining crashed vehicles, taking statements and looking at phone records.
