Drivers in Kentucky sometimes become extremely nervous when they pull into the path of oncoming cars to pass a large commercial vehicle. The distance that a passenger vehicle must cover to safely pass a semi-tractor trailer is significant, and the size and shape of these vehicles makes seeing the road ahead difficult. The South Korean electronics firm Samsung felt that technology could provide a solution to this problem, and it has developed a system that makes it possible for drivers to, in a sense, see through a truck ahead of them.
Kentucky motorists may not have collision avoidance systems in their vehicles. They may, however, wish they had after seeing statistics from the National Transportation Safety Board.
According to the Auto Insurance Center, overcorrecting by drivers is the most common cause of a fatal motor vehicle accident in Kentucky. Other common causes of fatal car accidents in other states include the failure to stay in the proper lane or failure to drive on the right side of the road. Data was collected from The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Fatal Accident Reporting System between 2009 and 2013 to make such a determination.
