Every year, large trucks in Kentucky and across the country are involved in hundreds of thousands of collisions. Data gathered from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that in 2012, large trucks were involved in 333,000 collisions. Over 3,900 people died in those collisions, and 88 fatal truck accidents occurred in Kentucky alone.
A volunteer firefighter and nephew to the chief of the Glendale volunteer fire department died on Aug. 6 after responding to an accident on Interstate 65. The 25-year-old man and his mother were reportedly getting equipment from a fire truck when a tractor-trailer struck the firefighters and the emergency vehicle.
