1 Dead, 2 Injured In Alleged DUI Car Crash

A female driver who was involved in a car accident that occurred on Sept. 5 in Kentucky was charged with DUI and murder after the fatal crash. According to the news source, the crash took place near Shelbyville Road’s intersection with Dorsey Lane in Louisville.

Authorities reported that the 23-year-old woman was driving a Honda Pilot shortly before midnight when her vehicle struck a Honda Civic. The impact from the collision resulted in the death of one of the Civic’s passengers, and two other occupants of the vehicle were injured. The accused woman was booked into Metro Corrections following the accident and was being held on a cash bond of $500,000. She was scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 8.

Fatal car accidents can have a number of causes. In some cases, for example, the driver who was accused of causing the crash may have been driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In other cases, drivers are distracted by their phone, the radio or even passengers. Fatigued driving can also lead to fatal accidents.

Family members of fatal accident victims who believe their loved ones died as a direct result of another driver’s careless or negligent actions can pursue wrongful death claims. In Kentucky, the court must appoint a representative of a decedent’s estate before such a claim can be filed. Successful wrongful death lawsuits allow victims’ estates to hold accused parties responsible for the financial harm caused by their negligence. Damages awarded through this kind of litigation may include compensation for funeral costs, the loss of a decedent’s income and other monetary losses.
