On July 12, an 11-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Woodford County. Three others were injured in the crash. According to the Versailles Police, a car was turning left from Midway Road onto Versailles Road around 3:50 a.m. when a pickup truck driving west on Versailles Road ran the red light and struck it. An 11-year-old passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Three other occupants in the vehicle were transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The driver of the pickup, a 20-year-old Frankfort man, fled the scene on foot. He walked to a restaurant in Frankfort and called his grandmother to pick him up. At around 9 a.m., his grandparents drove him to the police station, and he was placed under arrest.
The driver has been charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident causing death and disregarding a traffic control device. The accident remains under investigation.
Those who have been injured in a motor vehicle accident caused by a driver who was distracted, impaired or otherwise negligent may want to discuss their case with an attorney. In some cases, it may be advisable to bring a personal injury lawsuit against the negligent driver. By using accident investigation results, witness accounts and other available evidence, legal counsel may be able to demonstrate that the defendant is liable for the victim’s injuries. If the case is successful, the victim could be awarded compensation for medical expenses, lost wages and other damages that were incurred.
